New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!

FPUA is proud to share that the Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility has been recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection with the 2025 Water and Wastewater Plant Operations Excellence Award.

The facility was recognized in the Type I Domestic Wastewater Facility category, which includes facilities with a permitted capacity of 500,000 gallons per day or greater. The award recognizes outstanding operation, maintenance, and compliance.

This recognition comes at a meaningful time for the project. The facility was inaugurated on January 9 and has since been undergoing testing and system preparation as it moves toward receiving wastewater flows. The work taking place now is focused on ensuring the facility is ready to operate as intended.

At the same time, the facility represents the relocation of wastewater treatment operations off South Hutchinson Island. This transition supports a more resilient and reliable system for the community.

We are honored to receive this award as the facility moves closer to full operation, and remains committed to delivering reliable service, protecting our environment, and supporting the community for years to come.

Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.

We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
