Water reclamation facility entering its final stages

New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!

Last week, progress continued through both the Water Reclamation Facility and the conveyance system. At the plant, staff remained focused on startup activities, including seeding the treatment process to support full operation. On the conveyance side, crews advanced installation of a 16-inch force main in the downtown Fort Pierce area despite challenging conditions. Meanwhile, design efforts for the Glenview project continue to move forward, supporting future capacity and system efficiency.

This week, the Water Reclamation Facility is entering its final stages, with key activities focused on preparing the plant for full operation. Telemetry system integration is nearing completion, including final programming and hands-on training for plant staff to ensure a smooth transition to live flows. The sludge seeding process has now been completed, introducing active biological cultures from the island facility to establish the treatment process and support early performance. Across the site, contractor trailers are also being removed, making way for final grading and grass installation as the facility approaches completion.

On the conveyance side, visible progress continues in the downtown Fort Pierce area. Along 7th Street between Avenue B and Avenue C, crews are actively excavating and installing a 16-inch force main. As shown, sections of the roadway have been opened to install the new pipeline, with crews carefully working through existing conditions while maintaining safe and coordinated operations. This infrastructure is a critical component in creating a reliable path to move wastewater from South Hutchinson Island to the new mainland facility.

For the Moore’s Creek booster pump station, the project is advancing through the permitting phase. Due to the site’s location within a floodplain, additional hydraulic analysis and a no-rise certification are required to move forward with the building permit. Coordination with the City is ongoing, including minor site plan adjustments to preserve existing features while keeping the project on track.

Together, these efforts are strengthening the reliability of Fort Pierce’s wastewater system, improving overall performance, and supporting long-term environmental protection for our community and waterways. Thank you for following along with our progress, and we encourage you to stay connected through our weekly updates as the project continues to move forward.

Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.

We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
