The new plant has been designed by GlobalTech Haskell Hazen joint venture and is represented in this quick video rendering. The plant will be poured concrete and storm-hardened to provide the most reliable and resilient wastewater treatment service to our customers.
Protecting Ft. Pierce’s waterways and keeping them clean, safe and accessible is our way of life. That is why we are moving the sewer treatment plant off the Indian River Lagoon to a western location, far from any neighborhoods. At Ft. Pierce Utilities Authority, we work for you.
The state has mandated that we make $16 million worth of upgrades to the sewer treatment plant, but they would only be a short-term solution. That is why we are moving the sewer treatment plant.
The new plant will be in an environmentally-safe location. The lagoon is not just a precious natural resource; keeping it clean and protecting it is vital to our future. Moving the sewer treatment plant off the island is not just a good idea - it’s good science.
