New backup generator has arrived onsite
New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!
Last week, startup and system optimization activities continued at FPUA's new Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility as teams worked toward full operational readiness. Progress also continued the new booster station that will help support the transition of wastewater flows to the new inland facility.
This week, another important milestone was reached at the Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility. The facility's new backup generator has arrived on site and will be wired and initialized over the coming weeks, further strengthening system reliability and resiliency. The facility also successfully completed its first round of solids dewatering. This process is an important part of wastewater treatment, and the newly constructed sludge holding tanks performed very well during this initial operation. Startup, optimization, and operational readiness activities continue as teams work to prepare the facility for full operation.
Beyond the facility itself, important work continues behind the scenes to support future wastewater conveyance system improvements. Recent efforts have focused on the planning and design of additional conveyance infrastructure that will help move wastewater efficiently through the system and support the long-term transition to the new Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility. While much of this work takes place before construction begins, these early steps are essential to ensuring future improvements are carefully coordinated, thoughtfully designed, and positioned for long-term success.
Together, these projects represent FPUA's continued investment in reliable wastewater service, environmental stewardship, and community resilience. From construction progress in the field to planning efforts behind the scenes, each step helps build a stronger and more sustainable wastewater system for the future.
Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
