Facility moves closer to operational readiness
New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!
Last week, FPUA shared that the Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility received the 2025 Plant Operations Excellence Award from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP), and representatives from the agency visited the facility to formally present the award and meet with FPUA staff.
This week at the Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility, startup and system optimization activities continued as the facility moves closer to full operational readiness.
Plant operations are running well, including strong solids separation from the treated effluent, an important part of maintaining reliable treatment performance and supporting water quality goals.
Teams also continue fine-tuning equipment and preparing systems for long-term operation. In addition, a new backup generator is expected to be delivered this week and is anticipated to be operational within the next few weeks to further strengthen facility resiliency and reliability.
Work is also continuing on the new booster station being constructed near North 24th Street. Once operational, the booster station will help redirect wastewater flows from the existing Master Lift Station A to the Mainland Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility, supporting the transition of wastewater treatment operations to the new inland location and improving overall system resiliency.
Temporary fencing has now been installed at the site to secure the construction area and support upcoming construction activities expected to begin soon.
As work continues, FPUA remains focused on strengthening critical infrastructure, supporting long-term resiliency, and protecting the Indian River Lagoon.
Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
