Helping Fort Pierce Residents Switch to Sewer – FPUA Announces Renewed Grant Support for the Septic to Sewer Savings Program

This Wastewater Wednesday, we're excited to share that with renewed grant support from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program (IRLNEP), FPUA will begin offering financial assistance to eligible homeowners to convert from septic to sewer on Monday, October 26th.

This funding will help reduce the cost of septic-to-sewer conversion for qualifying homeowners while supporting FPUA's ongoing efforts to improve wastewater infrastructure and protect the Indian River Lagoon.

Connecting to FPUA's centralized wastewater system reduces nutrient pollution risks to our waterways and eliminates the need for homeowners to maintain or eventually replace their septic tanks.

We understand that converting from septic to sewer is an investment. In addition to available grant assistance, FPUA offers several payment options to help homeowners manage conversion costs, including a one-year, interest-free payment plan with 20% down or a 10-year financing plan with 20% down and 6% interest.

Because every property is different, conversion costs and available assistance may vary. Our team can help homeowners determine whether their property is eligible for sewer service and grant funding, explain the conversion process, and review financing options.

Grant funding is limited and will be awarded to eligible homeowners in the order requests are received, subject to availability.

We encourage interested customers to contact FPUA to learn more about their options.

We're grateful to the State of Florida Environmental Protection Department and the One Lagoon - Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program for their continued support of projects that improve wastewater infrastructure and help protect local waterways.

Together, these efforts are helping more Fort Pierce residents make the switch to sewer while working toward a healthier Indian River Lagoon for generations to come.
