FPUA recognized as a 2025 Utility of the Future Today in Water Reuse

NEW UPDATE: Wastewater Wednesdays!

Fort Pierce Utilities Authority is proud to be recognized as a 2025 Utility of the Future Today in Water Reuse.

This national recognition from the Water Environment Federation (WEF) honors utilities that lead with innovation, sustainability, and community service. Since the program began, 241 utilities have received this distinction, including 41 recognized in 2025.

For FPUA, this award reflects the heart of our mission. The wastewater treatment plant relocation project represents years of collaboration and commitment. Once complete, the new facility will provide 1.5 million gallons of reclaimed water each day to the Treasure Coast Energy Center for use in its cooling towers. Additionally, moving the facility from South Hutchinson Island to an inland location will help protect the Indian River Lagoon by reducing environmental risks and strengthening coastal resilience.

We were honored to share this recognition with our Board of Directors during the October 7 meeting, celebrating their leadership and continued support throughout this journey.

To everyone who planned, built, and believed in this vision, thank you for helping shape a more sustainable and resilient Fort Pierce that protects our environment and strengthens our community for generations to come.
