Process lift stations nearing completion
NEW UPDATE: Waste Water Wednesdays!
Last week, major systems took shape at the new facility. Crews installed air piping to the biological reactors, wrapped up work at the deep injection well pump station, and advanced the headworks grit chambers. The conveyance system is nearly complete, with final paving along Okeechobee Road set for the next two weeks to tie the plant into the city’s system.
This week, attention has turned to the new equipment that will bring the facility closer to operation. Crews are making progress on the disk filter units, completing electrical connections and building access staircases that will allow operators to safely service the filters. At the O&M building, the shop compressor has been installed, tested, and is now ready to support plant operations for years ahead. The process lift stations are also nearing completion, with work visible inside the sanitary lift station wetwell. Meanwhile, at the EQ tank, the variable frequency drive (VFD) control cabinets for the pump station have been installed and are waiting on the protective canopy that will shield them from the elements.
On the conveyance side, progress continues downtown as part of the underground system that will carry wastewater to the new plant. AE Backus Avenue is closed from North Indian River Drive to North 2nd Street beginning October 6, 2025, to allow crews to complete this phase of work. The closure is expected to last about 15 days, weather permitting, and detour routes are in place to keep traffic moving.
As always, we'd like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crews who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc.,Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc. Inc. re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; - Kimley-Horn the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
