Continued mechanical progress and detailed finishing throughout the site
NEW UPDATE: Wastewater Wednesdays!
Last week, work advanced steadily across the site. At the Nereda basins, crews installed the conduit cable tray system to organize on-tank equipment. The headworks neared completion with protective coatings applied to the influent piping and both grit classifiers aligned. Pavement restoration also wrapped up along Jenkins Road between Okeechobee and Edwards, marking another milestone for the conveyance system.
This week’s work highlights continued mechanical progress and detailed finishing throughout the site. At the Nereda basins, crews are installing process air piping along its elevated route between the blower building and treatment basins. The piping will supply the air that drives the Nereda biological treatment process, and careful alignment and anchoring are underway to ensure long-term performance and reliability. At the headworks, stainless steel sluice gates are being installed to give operators precise control over influent flow and allow safe access for band-screen maintenance, marking one of the final stages of structural installation in this area.
Inside the Operations and Maintenance Building, the locker room is nearing completion. Cabinetry, tile, and fixtures are now in place, creating a finished space designed to support more than 40 wastewater operations and collections staff. Once complete, the building will serve as the central hub for daily coordination, equipment storage, and operational support for the new facility.
As always, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crews who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
