FPUA hosts City Commissioner Curtis Johnson for a tour of the MWRF construction site
NEW UPDATE: Wastewater Wednesdays
Last week, construction continued to move forward on multiple fronts. At the plant, the disinfection facility took shape with the installation of two 7,500-gallon hypochlorite tanks and their canopy structure. Storage tank transfer pumps and on-site reuse pumps were also staged for upcoming installation. Inside the on-site lift stations, crews began assembling components to return process and reject flows to the headworks for further treatment.
In the conveyance area, piping reached the entrance of the Wawa gas station on Kings Highway, and crews began preparing for connection to the existing force main north of Okeechobee Road. Since the start of CIP 2.1, approximately 4,000 feet of pipe have been installed along Jenkins Road.
This week, interior progress is taking center stage. In the O&M building, windows have been fully installed, and crews are now hanging drywall in the upstairs offices and control room. Meanwhile, at the headworks, a shipment of center-flow band screens arrived ahead of schedule. These units will screen out trash and inorganic material from incoming flows before they enter the Nereda basins for biological treatment.
Out in the field, the force main crossing at the Wawa driveway has been completed and installation continues moving north. The HDPE pipe under Okeechobee Road has been successfully flushed, fittings have been delivered, and sidewalk restoration is underway.
We also captured new aerial shots of the site as the bigger picture continues to take shape ahead of commissioning this December.
To top it off, FPUA had the pleasure of hosting City Commissioner Curtis Johnson for a tour of the MWRF construction site. Thank you, Commissioner Johnson, for your continued support!
Stay tuned as we continue transforming this site into a modern, resilient facility designed to serve the Fort Pierce community for generations. Each week brings exciting progress, and we look forward to sharing more milestones soon.
As always, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crews who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations.
