The People Behind the Project
New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!
Behind every major project are the people doing the work every day.
This week, we’re highlighting the professionals whose experience, collaboration, and commitment continue to move the Mainland Water Reclamation & Reuse Facility and its supporting systems forward.
Last week, Mike Martin, Operations Supervisor for the Water Reclamation Division and former Project Manager for the Mainland Water Reclamation & Reuse Facility, represented FPUA at the Design-Build for Water/Wastewater Conference in Grapevine, Texas, a national industry event that brings together utility leaders, engineers, and project teams from across the country.
During his presentation, Mike highlighted how early collaboration during the design and procurement phases helped establish cost certainty and minimize major changes later in the project. This approach also enabled early work packages to be authorized, allowing the project to move forward efficiently from the outset.
His perspective reflects direct, hands-on experience managing a project of this scale from early planning through execution.
At the same time, that leadership continues here at home.
Today, Lugey Dawson, Supervising Engineer of the Water and Wastewater Engineering team, was recognized by the Director of Utilities with a Challenge Coin in acknowledgment of his leadership, collaboration, and commitment to keeping multiple conveyance projects moving forward and aligned.
Lugey oversees all the conveyance projects, working closely with a team of engineers who are each leading different conveyance efforts. His role helps ensure alignment across teams, maintain progress, and support consistent execution as these critical components of the system continue to move forward.
His leadership helps create the structure and coordination needed for the entire team to succeed.
Together, these efforts highlight something important: the professionals working on these projects are not only experienced, but actively engaged, recognized, and continuously contributing to best practices in the industry.
This work reflects the level of coordination, experience, and attention to detail that goes into delivering these projects.
Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
