Crews welding sections of high-density polyethylene pipe

New Update: Wastewater Wednesday!

Work continues to move forward on FPUA's wastewater relocation project as crews advance the infrastructure that will support the transition to the new Mainland Water Reclamation Facility.

This week, crews continued welding sections of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe that will become part of the discharge system from Lift Station A. Designed for durability and leak resistance, this piping will help provide reliable wastewater service while supporting the long-term performance of the system.

The FPUA Board also approved the next phase of the Edwards Road to 10-Mile Creek Force Main Extension. This project will continue expanding the wastewater conveyance system by extending critical infrastructure toward the new Mainland Water Reclamation Facility while preparing for future system connections. As additional segments are completed, the growing network will help safely and efficiently transport wastewater to the new inland facility, supporting FPUA's long-term transition to a more resilient wastewater system.

Beyond construction, FPUA will share lessons learned from this project at the upcoming Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference WEFTEC, North America's largest annual conference for water professionals. The event brings together utility leaders, engineers, researchers, and industry experts to exchange knowledge and innovative practices that advance the water sector.

FPUA's presentation, Public Trust – The Missing Input in Infrastructure Finance, will highlight how community engagement and public trust have supported the planning and implementation of the wastewater relocation project, providing insights that may benefit other utilities undertaking similar infrastructure improvements.

Each milestone brings FPUA one step closer to delivering a more resilient wastewater system that will serve the Fort Pierce community while helping protect the Indian River Lagoon for generations to come.

Every step forward, whether through modernizing wastewater infrastructure or restoring natural habitats, helps protect our local waterways and build a more resilient future for our community.

Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crew who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.

We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
