Final site restoration and finishing work continues
New Update: Wastewater Wednesdays!
Last week, the Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility continued moving through its final stages, with crews completing site restoration activities such as grading, sodding, and hydroseeding to stabilize and prepare the grounds. Inside the plant, equipment start-ups and hands-on vendor training helped prepare FPUA operators to manage the facility’s advanced treatment systems. On the conveyance side, installation of the new 16-inch force main along Avenue B and ongoing bridge demolition at Moore’s Creek marked continued progress toward redirecting wastewater flows to the new inland facility.
This week, final site restoration and finishing work continues across the WRRF property. Crews are actively installing sod and operating irrigation systems in common areas to establish permanent ground cover, while completing final grading and paving to ensure proper drainage and long-term stability. Contractors are also addressing remaining punch-list items throughout the facility, including sealing concrete surfaces and finalizing the electrical buildings. Equipment start-ups and system checks remain underway, allowing operators to continue gaining familiarity with the plant’s treatment equipment and computerized controls as the facility prepares for full operation.
We are also proud to share that FPUA’s Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability, Rachel Tennant, will serve as a panelist at the upcoming R2C Leadership Summit. During the Resilient Florida Project Showcase, she will highlight Fort Pierce’s Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility as a successful resilience initiative and share how projects like this are helping strengthen environmental protection and long-term infrastructure reliability for our community.
Also, we’d like to thank all of our partners, contractors, vendors, and crews who are helping us deliver this important project to our customers! FPUA is grateful for this project with industry leaders Globaltech, Inc., Haskell and Hazen, the site designers and build team; TLC Diversified, Inc., re-routing the conveyance system to redirect wastewater flows away from the Indian River Lagoon; Kimley-Horn, the conveyance system designers, and the sub-contractors working so hard to keep this project safe and on schedule.
We are also thankful for the partnership with the City of Fort Pierce in this infrastructure improvement effort that will benefit the Fort Pierce community for generations to come.
